Coupons for Office/School Supplies

Tomorrow I'll be going to Staples to buy a 5-pack of Pentel ballpoint pens and a 3-pack of Pentel mechanical pencils for $1 each with coupons from this week's ad circular. Some of the other $1 deals are notebooks, envelopes, glue sticks, a stapler and dry-erase markers. I don't need any of those additional items. But I do need pens and pencils. So I'll save $7.48 on things I really need and always use...maybe double that if I buy 2 packages of each.

  1. Suggestion: Fountain pens. I've been using the same fountain pen for over a year now, thus consuming only ink and no plastic. What's more, I only spent ~$7 for around a 3-year supply of ink. Frugal and green!

  2. Hi jnm154 - fountain pens are frugal and green. Good for you! I haven't used a fountain pen in years but might consider one now. My only concern is an ink link. Does that every happen to you?

  3. Did you mean 'leak'? Because my pen never leaks, although it probably depends on the manufacturer. Mine was manufactured in Japan by Pentel, and, if you meant 'link,' conforms to the standard fountain-pen ink cartridge sold everywhere. But in terms of leaking, the only time you ever (possibly) get a smudge on your finger is when you change the cartridge. So not only is it frugal and green, but I also like to think it puts humanity and romanticism back into writing, and I'm not kidding. I find that with the added boldness and quality, I pay more attention to what I write.

  4. Whoops, yes I did mean leak! When I was in high school, I used a fountain pen and I always had ink all over my hands and in my purse. I'm guessing the new cartridges have a better design. I like that your writing takes on a different character when you use a fountain pen...but I'm guessing that you are bold alrady, and a romantic at heart, so it would be there even if you used a pencil!
